LIN BEIFONG MY QUEEEEEN!
Is this what I think it is—has that original vibe of ATLA and MAN PLEASE. KORRA SHOW YOU CAN REDEEM YOURSELF IN TERMS OF STORYTELLING, COME ON I BELIEVE IN YOU
Hard to say if it’ll “redeem” itself yet, but it at least looks like the writing is paced MUCH better than the mess that was Book 2.
Having seen all four episodes that this trailer is using footage from, I should caution fans that Korra herself barely does anything in at least those 4 episodes (this trailer focuses on the ONE exciting scene she participates in).
The most concise statement I’ve seen made on what we’ve seen of Book 3’s writing is:
">the quality of the writing itself seems to have improved in terms of having an overarching plot progressing to a clear endgame without too much bullshit. It seems to have more of a clear three to four act structure. The characters seem to act less retarded and their motivations (so far) aren’t too ridiculous. Korra is less of a cunt.
>Many of elements of the plot are total asspulls which reek of a shallow attempt to retroactively change the character dynamics.”
I personally agree with everything said above. The pacing is better, the structure is better, but the actual plot-devices are still weird and cheap-feeling at this point (though less ridiculous than Book 2) I will also assure fans that the fight scenes are freaking awesome. Some of the best in the entire Avatar series so far.
Basically, if you tolerated Book 2, you will probably like Book 3 more — assuming it maintains this consistency, which is unlikely because this show tends to go all over the place in terms of quality of the writing.
If Book 2 turned you completely off from caring about the show, Book 3 does NOT look like it will change that.
Of these 4 episodes shown so far, this is STILL not “The Legend of Korra” but rather “The Legend of Everyone Besides Korra Who Was Too Immature In the Past And Now We Get To See Them Work Their Shit Out And Also Everyone’s Parents Suck”.
But it is VERY pretty and the fight scenes are awesome, as are the environments and music.
